Wrapped in Death and Chocolate

death-chocolateFull disclosure: I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Wrapped in Death and Chocolate (The Portman Creamery Mysteries, #1) by C. S. Patra falls into the cozy mystery genre, one of my favorites for light reading. While not labeled as such, it appears to be aimed either at young adults or at older readers who are learning English as a second language. I’ve read more sophisticated books for both audiences. I found the writing simplistic and repetitive. And introducing so many characters in the first couple of pages was confusing. I was willing to buy the premise — graduate students working at an ice cream shop — but the character development was somewhat superficial. And the author’s grasp of police procedure was also light. I am unlikely to read more by this author or to recommend her to other adults.
